Whole Body Wellness

Happy Friday! To wrap up Erica and I’s Fitness Friday series I am going to be talking about whole body wellness. Be sure to check out Erica’s Blog to see some yummy pre and post workout snacks to fuel your body with goodness while staying fit!

On a fitness journey it can be easy to slip into a state of mind which is focused on the wrong things. It is important to remind yourself that numbers and sizes don’t matter. Whole body wellness matters. This means getting active, exercising, staying fit, eating healthy foods, but also your state of mind. Here are some things I do in order to keep my head clear and be mindful.


Reading is something I didn’t start really enjoying until I started doing it for myself, rather than for a school assignment. I have found reading to be something that refreshes my soul and spirit and allows me to relax. My favorite author is Thich Nhat Hanh and his books are amazing especially in regards to spiritual wellness and mindfulness. I highly recommend all of his books.

Coloring is something I did as a child, but stopped. Recently I’ve been loving adult coloring books full of peaceful scenes and mandalas that let your creativity flow and make you focus just on the task of coloring, not all of life’s worries. Not only are adult coloring books super trendy right now, but they are also scientifically proven to reduce stress and anxiety. Definitely a win for whole body wellness!

Exercise. This is something many people just see as a physical benefit. Although exercising is very important for you physical wellness, it is also crucial in your mental health as well. So get moving!

Take time to listen to the ocean and watch the sun set. With the hustle and bustle of life it can be difficult to take time to be mindful and enjoy the simple things the world has to offer. One of the most therapeutic things for me is to just be at the ocean. Hearing the waves and watching the natural beauty of the ocean always relaxes me and brings me joy. The only thing that can make the ocean any better is watching a sunset over the beach. There are no words for a beautiful sunset over the ocean in Maine. I am so lucky to live in such a beautiful state!

Lastly, put your phone down and go for a walk in the woods! (Preferably not sketchy woods haha) it is so amazing to be out in nature without the distractions of technology. It isn’t necessary to hike a huge mountain to get in touch with nature. Just get outside and walk. This is good exercise and also great for clearing your head, relaxing, and enjoying the beauty of this world.

Different things work for everybody, but these are some of my favorites.
